Etro

Since 1968, Etro produces fabrics in exquisite designs. Unusual decors in strong colors are an old family tradition, inspired by regular travels to India of the founding couple.

1983, the pure fabric production was extended by the fabrication of accessories like scarves and ties. Two years later, a home collection followed. The fashion lines for men and women were launched in 1988, and since 1994 Etro showcases its designs at the fashion weeks.

The creative Etro family

Only very few companies in the fashion industry manage to completely remain family-owned over decades. One of these exceptional examples is Etro: Founded by Gimmo and Roberta Etro as a small fabric business, the youngest daughter of the founders Veronica Etro is now the creative director of the company. While she does not travel just as much like her parents did, she is nevertheless inspired by faraway countries with exotic fabrics and prints. Other than that, she draws her inspiration from art and culture. This way, feminine outfits emerge, that simultaneously demonstrate playfulness and confidence.

Veronica Etro had studied at the renowned Central Saint Martin’s College in London, before taking on the demanding task of managing the women’s line of Etro. Before, her brother Kean was in charge of this job; today his sole responsibility is the management of the men’s line. Being a creative all-round talent, he had not only developed an innovative fragrance concept for Etro in 1989, but also kick-started the fashion business altogether.

The first-born Jacopo Etro with his collector’s passion for antique fabrics and patterns is a true copy of his father and has become irreplaceable for the company. And the sportive art collector Ippolito Etro, the youngest of the three brothers, acts as a general director for all administrative tasks of the Etro fashion label.

Etro handbags: An ode to craftmanship

DThe luxurious Etro handbags are until today entirely made by hand in Italy. Precious fabrics and meticulous details turn every bag into nothing less than a collector’s item. For some models, completely new fabrics were developed: As a modern take on leather, a light Jacquard with water-repellent finish was developed. From this material, the high-quality Etro handbags of the famous Paisley Collection are made.
