Cartier: Luxury brand with tradition

170 years of tradition – only very few companies can look back onto such an extensive heritage. Already in 1847, the French luxury brand Cartier was founded in Paris by its founding father Louis-François Cartier. Ever since, it embodies exquisite watches and elegant jewelry.

Today, the company runs more than 200 stores in 125 countries. It provides a diverse range of jewelry, watches, handbags, glasses and other accessories.

Royal luxury from Cartier

DCartier has a long tradition of equipping the rich and famous with exclusive jewelry and watches. Since the early 20th century, Cartier maintains a close and trusting relationship with various royal families in Europe and far beyond. King Edward VII of England even described Cartier as the “Jeweler of the kings, and king of jewelers”.

Until today, Cartier watches and jewelry are regularly worn by many members of royal families. For example, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, often sports her Ballon Bleu watch by Cartier at official functions. But also, numerous non-royal celebrities are fans of the brand; Angelina Jolie and Naomi Watts are just two of them.

The panther: The emblem of Maison Cartier

Since 1914, the jaguar/panther is the iconic emblem of Cartier. This motive is used in many different collections. It goes back to the Cartier employee Jeanne Toussaint, who was nicknamed “Panther”. Her elegant poise and striking temperament have had a lasting impact on the collections by Cartier.

Today, the panther is primarily used in jewelry collections: His eyes are almost always made from emerald, and his fur is characterized by onyxes or sapphires. The panther also played a key role in shaping the popularity of the brand: The “Panther Ring” designed in 1935 is one of the most successful pieces of jewelry by Cartier.

Product extension

Already for a long time, Cartier does not only offer jewelry and watches: Also, other luxury products like leather goods, stationary and metal products find themselves in the exquisite collections. Even “invisible jewelry” in the form of carefully composed perfumes is part of the product range by Cartier.

Nevertheless, the legacy of Louis-François Cartier and the long history of the brand still play a significant role for the company: The flagship stores in Paris, London and New York look back onto more than 100 years of operation.
